Target Information
SENP8 (Cysteine protease FKSG8; DEN1; FKSG8; HsT17512; NEDP1; PRSC2; SUMO/sentrin specific protease family member 8) is a novel cysteine protease belonging to the ULP family of deubiquitinases.
ULP family members consist of a C-terminal core catalytic domain and N-terminal extensions determining substrate specificity.
SENP8, a 24 kDa protein, plays a major role in regulating the NEDD8 pathway. It processes preNEDD8 to its mature form and deconjugates NEDD8 from substrates such as Cullins and p53.
SENP8 may prevent accumulation of hyper-neddylated cullin and maintain the level of mono-neddylated cullin, enhancing ubiquitination efficiency by SCF ubiquitin ligases.
