Target Information

MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family involved in diverse cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
MAPK7 is activated by MAP2K5 (MEK5) and mediates downstream signaling of various receptors. Upon activation, MAPK7 translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression by phosphorylating transcription factors.
Gene deletion in mice results in impaired cardiac and vascular development, indicating its essential role in endothelial function and vascular integrity.
ERK5 is expressed in many adult tissues, including heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle, but not in liver.
Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two distinct isoforms have been identified.
