Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in various cellular processes that alter RNA secondary structures, including translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome assembly. Some family members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth. The DDX5 gene encodes a DEAD box protein acting as an RNA-dependent ATPase and proliferation-associated nuclear antigen, reacting with the simian virus 40 tumor antigen. It consists of 13 exons, and alternatively spliced transcripts have been detected, though no isoforms have been identified.
