This antibody detects both SARS-CoV nucleocapsid and SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid proteins. Internal testing indicates no cross-reactivity with MERS-CoV nucleocapsid protein.

SARS-CoV-2 Nucleocapsid Protein is associated with nucleic acid and is the most abundant coronavirus protein. Due to its strong immunogenicity, it has potential diagnostic value. The N protein is an abundant RNA-binding protein critical for viral genome packaging, containing dynamic disordered regions and transiently-helical motifs. It functions as a flexible and multivalent RNA-binding protein. SARS-CoV-2 causes illnesses ranging from the common cold to severe diseases.
