Target Information

The APC gene encodes a tumor suppressor protein that functions as an antagonist of the Wnt signaling pathway. It also plays roles in cell migration, adhesion, transcriptional activation, and apoptosis.
Mutations in this gene cause familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an autosomal dominant pre-malignant disease that often progresses to malignancy. Disease-associated mutations are typically clustered in the mutation cluster region (MCR), leading to a truncated protein product.
