Target Information

Functions as a key mediator in apoptosis and inflammation. Promotes caspase-mediated apoptosis involving predominantly caspase-8 and also caspase-9 in a cell type-specific manner. Involved in activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway, promoting caspase-8-dependent proteolytic maturation of BID independently of FADD and mediating mitochondrial translocation of BAX. Plays a role in macrophage pyroptosis, a caspase-1-dependent inflammatory cell death, and acts as an integral adapter in inflammasome assembly, leading to activation of caspase-1 and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines. Participates in innate and adaptive immune responses, dendritic cell maturation, cytokine transcriptional activation, and NF-kappa-B pathway modulation.
