Aldh3A2는 aldehyde dehydrogenase superfamily에 속하는 효소로, NAD(P)(+)-의존성 산화반응을 통해 다양한 지방족 및 방향족 알데하이드를 산화시킵니다. 이 효소군은 알코올 대사 및 지질 과산화 과정에서 생성되는 알데하이드의 해독에 중요한 역할을 합니다. Aldh3A2는 긴 사슬 알데하이드를 지방산으로 산화시키며, ALDH3A2 유전자의 돌연변이는 Sjogren-Larrson 증후군을 유발합니다. 이 질환은 피부건조증, 정신 지체, 경직성 이중마비를 특징으로 하며, 피부 및 뇌막의 지질 비정상 축적, 알데하이드-아민 결합체 형성, 또는 eicosanoid 대사 이상과 관련이 있습니다.
