Target Information

Dicer is a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) endoribonuclease that plays a central role in short dsRNA-mediated post-transcriptional gene silencing.
It cleaves long dsRNAs and short hairpin pre-microRNAs (miRNAs) into 21–23 nucleotide fragments with 3′ overhangs, producing siRNAs and mature miRNAs.
These small RNAs guide the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to complementary RNAs for degradation or translational repression.
RNA interference (RNAi) mediated by siRNAs helps eliminate transcripts from repetitive genomic elements and exogenous viral RNA.
The miRNA pathway regulates gene expression at the post-transcriptional level.
