Target Information
Phosphate-activated glutaminase (EC 3.5.1.2) is the major enzyme yielding glutamate from glutamine. It has been demonstrated in human platelets (Sahai, 1983), and its significance is linked to behavioral disturbances where glutamate acts as a neurotransmitter (Prusiner, 1981). Studies by Sahai and Vogel (1983) indicated high heritability of platelet glutaminase with an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.96 for monozygotic twins and 0.53 for dizygotic twins.
