Target Information
Antizyme inhibitor (AZIN1) is a protein that positively regulates ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity and polyamine uptake. AZIN1 is an enzymatically inactive ODC homolog that counteracts the inhibitory effects of ODC antizymes (OAZ1, OAZ2, and OAZ3) by competing with ODC for antizyme binding. This prevents antizyme-dependent ODC degradation and releases ODC monomers from inactive complexes, leading to formation of catalytically active ODC homodimers and restoration of polyamine production.
