Target Information
GDP dissociation inhibitors (GDIs) regulate the GDP-GTP exchange reaction of rab family small GTP-binding proteins, which are involved in vesicular trafficking between cellular organelles. GDIs slow the dissociation rate of GDP from rab proteins and release GDP from membrane-bound rabs.
GDI1 is primarily expressed in neural and sensory tissues, and mutations in GDI1 have been associated with X-linked nonspecific mental retardation.
