PA1-4963 detects the HIV-1 Nef protein in HIV samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot and ELISA procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects a ~27 kDa protein corresponding to HIV-1 Nef.
The immunogen is a recombinant protein over-expressed in E. coli with a plasmid carrying the Nef coding region of HIV-1.
Recombinant HIV-1 Nef protein (Cat. # RP-4922 or RP-4923) can be purchased for control experiments in Western blot assays.

Target Information

HIV-1 Nef is an accessory protein synthesized in the early stage of AIDS virus reproduction and is abundantly found in infected cells.
Originally named for its “negative factor,” Nef is now recognized as a key protein with distinctive biological characteristics of the AIDS virus.
It interacts directly with host T cell signal transduction proteins, influencing infection efficiency, long-term survival of infected cells, and apoptosis of non-infected cells.
Nef also participates in endocytosis and degradation of cell surface receptor proteins such as CD4 and MHC, which are important for AIDS virus infection.
