Target Information

Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes are classified into two subclasses: NAD-dependent and NADP-dependent. Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported—three NAD-dependent (mitochondrial matrix-localized) and two NADP-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic). The NADP-dependent mitochondrial isozyme encoded by this gene plays a role in intermediary metabolism and energy production and may interact with the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
