Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and have isoelectric points between 4.9 and 7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20, and their expression patterns vary depending on the type and differentiation stage of epithelial tissue.
Cytokeratin subtype expression is used increasingly to distinguish different types of epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in the differential diagnosis of tumors using immunohistochemistry on tissue sections and are valuable tools in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
