Histone H3 is a DNA-binding protein found in the chromatin of all eukaryotic cells. Together with four core histone proteins, it binds to DNA to form nucleosomes. Histones are essential for transcription regulation, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability. The N-terminal tail of histone H3 undergoes various post-translational modifications such as methylation, acetylation, and phosphorylation, influencing chromatin structure and transcription factor binding.
