Target Information
Hemoglobin subunit delta is a protein encoded by the HBD gene in humans. The delta (HBD) and beta (HBB) genes are normally expressed in adults: two alpha chains plus two beta chains constitute HbA, which comprises about 97% of adult hemoglobin. Two alpha chains plus two delta chains constitute HbA-2, which together with HbF makes up the remaining 3%. Five beta-like globin genes are located within a 45 kb cluster on chromosome 11 in the order: 5′-epsilon-Ggamma-Agamma-delta-beta-3′.
