Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes murine CD51, approximately a 140 kDa alpha subunit of the vitronectin receptor, also known as the integrin alpha V chain. CD51 can form heterodimers at the cell surface with various beta integrins including CD29 and CD61.

Target Information

The ITAGV gene encodes integrin alpha chain V. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha and a beta chain. The I-domain containing integrin alpha V undergoes post-translational cleavage to yield disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, combining with multiple integrin beta chains to form different integrins.

Among the known associating beta chains (β1, β3, β5, β6, and β8; ITGB1, ITGB3, ITGB5, ITGB6, ITGB8), each interacts with extracellular matrix ligands. The αVβ3 integrin, also known as the Vitronectin Receptor (VNR), is one of the most studied. In addition to adhesion, many integrins facilitate signal transduction.

The ITGB3 protein product forms the integrin beta chain β3, which pairs with the alpha IIb chain in platelets. Integrins participate in both cell adhesion and cell-surface–mediated signaling.
