Product Specific Information

The SK3 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59-kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, a subset of mature T helper cells, and at low levels by monocytes. CD4 serves as a receptor for HIV, and SK3 blocks HIV binding and mixed lymphocyte reaction. SK3 and RPA-T4 monoclonal antibodies recognize distinct epitopes.

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in MHC class II recognition and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T helper lymphocytes, but also in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is found in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 participates in early T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
