Target Information
Members of the mTERF (mitochondrial transcription termination factor) family are mitochondrial proteins believed to function as transcription termination factors. MTERFD1 contains three leucine zippers forming a three-stranded coiled-coil that binds to DNA. It acts as a mitochondrial transcription regulator by binding promoter DNA. Only the phosphorylated form of MTERFD1 is suggested to have transcription termination activity. A related family member, MTERFD3, may regulate cell cycle and growth through mitochondrial transcription modulation.
