The monoclonal antibody eBio5G3 recognizes CD171 (L1CAM), a neural cell adhesion molecule belonging to the Ig superfamily with six extracellular Ig domains and five fibronectin type III-like repeats.
CD171 mediates cell-cell interactions involved in neuronal myelination, neurite outgrowth, and regeneration. It is expressed on monocytes, dendritic cells, lymphocytes, neuronal tissue, and certain tumor cell lines, where its expression may contribute to tumor progression.
The eBio5G3 epitope resides in the amino-terminal Ig-like domain.

The ectodomain contains multiple immunoglobulin-like and fibronectin type III-like repeats, linked via a transmembrane region to a conserved cytoplasmic domain.
This molecule is crucial for nervous system development, including neuronal migration and differentiation.
Mutations cause X-linked neurological syndromes collectively known as CRASH (Corpus callosum hypoplasia, Retardation, Aphasia, Spastic paraplegia, Hydrocephalus).
Alternative splicing of a neuron-specific exon contributes to functional diversity.
