Target Information
SMADs are members of the MAD-related family of intracellular proteins essential in the signaling pathways of serine/threonine kinase receptors of the TGF-β superfamily.
They are categorized as follows:
- Receptor-regulated SMADs (R-SMADs): SMAD1, 2, 5, 8, 9
- Common-mediator SMAD (co-SMAD): SMAD4
- Inhibitory SMADs (I-SMADs): SMAD6, 7
SMAD1, 5, 8, and 9 share high sequence homology, and antibodies recognizing these common regions are available. SMAD8 and SMAD9 are often used interchangeably in literature.
