Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the S100 family, characterized by two EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of various cells and regulate processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. The S100 gene cluster on chromosome 1q21 includes at least 13 members. S100A2 may function as a tumor suppressor, and its altered expression has been associated with breast cancer.
