Target Information
Mitochondrial peripheral-type benzodiazepine receptor (PBR) is an essential component of the steroidogenic machinery, mediating cholesterol delivery to the inner mitochondrial membrane upon ligand activation.
PBR consists of three subunits: an isoquinoline binding site, a voltage-dependent anion channel, and an adenine nucleotide carrier.
It is conserved across species and widely expressed in peripheral organs, while in the brain it is mainly localized in glial cells.
PFDA inhibits Leydig cell steroidogenesis by destabilizing PBR mRNA, reducing PBR expression, cholesterol transport, and steroid formation.
PRAX-1 (Peripheral Benzodiazepine Receptor-Associated Protein 1) specifically interacts with PBR.
