Product Specific Information

This antibody detects several forms of ERα ranging from 66 to 35 kDa on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of MCF-7 cells treated with pervanadate, and this reactivity is removed after alkaline phosphatase treatment.

Target Information

Estrogen Receptors (ER) are members of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. The estrogen receptor is a ligand-activated transcription factor that, when bound to estrogen, undergoes a conformational change enabling dimerization and binding to estrogen response elements (ERE) in DNA. Through these interactions, ER can regulate gene transcription by recruiting coactivator or corepressor proteins.

There are two primary forms of the estrogen receptor: ERα and ERβ, encoded by ESR1 and ESR2, respectively. Alternative RNA splicing produces at least four ERα isoforms (66, 53, 47, and 35 kDa). Estrogen receptors are widely expressed and are essential for sexual development, reproductive function, and bone maintenance. They are also implicated in diseases such as breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and osteoporosis.
