Target Information
The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an essential cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves three classes of enzymes:
- E1: Ubiquitin-activating enzymes
- E2: Ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes
- E3: Ubiquitin-protein ligases
This gene encodes a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family, required for post-replicative DNA damage repair. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants produce distinct isoforms.
