IKK gamma is the regulatory subunit of the inhibitor of kappaB kinase (IKK) complex, which activates NF-kappaB, leading to gene activation involved in inflammation, immunity, and cell survival.
Mutations in the IKK gamma gene are associated with disorders such as incontinentia pigmenti, hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, and various immunodeficiencies.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist, and a highly similar pseudogene is located on an adjacent region of the X chromosome.
