This antibody detects the extracellular region of CD117 / c-Kit proto-oncogene.
Target Information
KIT (c-KIT) is a proto-oncogene encoding a type III transmembrane receptor for MGF (mast cell growth factor, also known as stem cell factor). KIT regulates the growth and activation of various hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells. Mutations in KIT are linked to gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mast cell disease, acute myelogenous leukemia, and piebaldism.
Upon ligand (SCF) binding, c-Kit dimerizes, leading to receptor activation and autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues such as Tyr703. This enables downstream signaling through pathways like Ras/ERK, PI3K, PLC-γ, and JAK/STAT. c-Kit is essential for hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, and gametogenesis.
