Target Information

This gene encodes the epsilon subunit of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) A receptor, a multisubunit chloride channel mediating fast inhibitory synaptic transmission in the central nervous system.
It belongs to the ligand-gated ionic channel family (TC 1.A.9) and is mapped to chromosome Xq28, clustered with genes encoding alpha 3, beta 4, and theta subunits.
Alternative splicing variants exist, but only one encodes a functional protein.
