Product Specific Information
- For IHC (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer maintenance. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to anchor the E-cadherin complex to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with the adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in signaling pathways involving tyrosine kinases, phosphatases, and Wnt/Wingless.
It is expressed in various hair follicle cell types and epithelial cells. Pathological roles of beta-catenin have been identified in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, and other tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of genes such as cyclin D and c-myc, which drive cell proliferation and tumorigenesis.
