NCSTN (Nicastrin)은 type I 막관통 당단백질을 암호화하는 유전자로, γ-secretase 복합체의 주요 구성 요소입니다. 이 단백질은 Notch 수용체 및 β-amyloid 전구체 단백질을 포함한 막단백질의 절단에 관여하며, γ-secretase 복합체의 조립에 필요한 안정화 보조 인자로 작용할 수 있습니다. β-amyloid 전구체 단백질의 절단은 알츠하이머병의 주요 병리적 특징인 amyloid β peptide를 생성합니다. 본 유전자의 변이는 가족성 여드름 역전증(familial acne inversa)과 연관되어 있습니다. 염색체 21번에 유사 유전자가 존재합니다.
