Target Information
A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are structurally diverse proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA), confining the holoenzyme to specific cellular locations.
AKAP13 encodes a member of this family, with multiple transcript variants via alternative splicing. Isoforms contain C-terminal DH (dbl oncogene homology) and PH (pleckstrin homology) domains.
The DH domain activates Rho/Rac GTPases, converting inactive GTPase to its active signaling form. The PH domain has multiple functions, enabling AKAP13 to act as a scaffolding protein coordinating Rho signaling, anchoring PKA, and enhancing ligand-dependent estrogen receptor activity.
