DAZL 단백질은 인간 생식세포의 유사분열과 감수분열에 관여하며, RNA 결합 단백질로 작용합니다.
이 단백질은 태아 생식세포의 핵과 세포질, 성숙 난자의 세포질에 존재합니다.
인간에서는 원시 생식세포, 성인 고환 및 난소에서 발현되며, 정자형성 과정에서 중심적인 역할을 합니다.
DAZL 결함은 심한 희소정자증 및 비폐쇄성 무정자증으로 인한 불임을 유발할 수 있습니다.
DAZ 유전자 군은 영장류 진화 과정에서 DAZL의 전이 및 증폭을 통해 Y 염색체상의 DAZ 유전자 군을 형성했습니다.
