Target Information
Ubinuclein 1 (UBN1) is a ubiquitously expressed, evolutionarily conserved protein that binds to proliferation-promoting genes repressed by formation of senescence-associated heterochromatin foci (SAHF).
UBN1 associates with various transcription factors and histone methyltransferase activity, is indispensable for SAHF formation, and acts as a regulator of senescence.
Although ubinuclein is generally localized to the nucleus, in cells forming tight junctions it is recruited to cell adhesion complexes depending on cell density.
