Target Information

The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an essential cellular mechanism for degrading abnormal or short-lived proteins.
Ubiquitination involves three classes of enzymes:

1. E1 – Ubiquitin-activating enzymes
2. E2 – Ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes
3. E3 – Ubiquitin-protein ligases

This gene encodes a member of the E1 family, forming a heterodimer with AppBp1 (amyloid beta precursor protein binding protein) to activate NEDD8, a ubiquitin-like protein involved in cell division, signaling, and embryogenesis.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
