Target Information
DNA replication, recombination, and repair are essential for maintaining genome stability and require exonucleases. During DNA replication, these enzymes process Okazaki fragments, while in repair they remove damaged DNA and correct mismatches. DNA polymerases δ and ε are key exonucleases in these processes. DNA polymerase δ has subunits p125 and p50, with p125 interacting with PCNA, and is regulated by cell cycle proteins. DNA polymerase ε is a multisubunit enzyme whose catalytic subunit is encoded by the POL2 gene. The precise roles of DNA polymerases δ and ε in leading and lagging strand synthesis remain under investigation.
