Antibody detects endogenous levels of total APOBEC3H.
Target Information
DNA deaminase (cytidine deaminase) that inhibits retrovirus replication and retrotransposon mobility through deaminase-dependent and -independent mechanisms.
The A3H-var/haplotype 2 shows antiviral activity against vif-deficient HIV-1.
After retroviral nucleocapsid penetration and initiation of reverse transcription, it converts cytosine to uracil in minus-sense viral DNA, causing G-to-A hypermutations in plus-strand DNA.
This leads to detrimental levels of mutations and efficient antiretroviral effects.
It selectively targets single-stranded DNA and does not act on double-stranded DNA or RNA.
Also exhibits antiviral activity against HTLV-1 and may inhibit mobility of LTR and non-LTR retrotransposons.
