Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCB1 (PKC beta I), is activated intracellularly by signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 different PKC polypeptides have been identified, differing in structure, distribution, localization, and substrate specificity. Conventional PKC isoforms (alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma) are Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent.
PKC enzymes phosphorylate various protein targets and participate in diverse cellular signaling pathways. They act as receptors for phorbol esters, known tumor promoters. PKC beta-1 is involved in B cell activation, apoptosis, endothelial proliferation, intestinal sugar absorption, and possibly neuronal regulation related to stress-induced behavior.
