Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts specifically with alpha-synuclein protein and does not cross-react with beta- or gamma-synuclein or synoretin. Reactivity was confirmed with human samples. Reactivity with other species has not been tested.
Target Information
Alpha-synuclein belongs to the synuclein protein family, which also includes beta- and gamma-synuclein. These proteins are abundant in the brain and play roles in synaptic transmission and membrane trafficking. Alpha- and beta-synuclein selectively inhibit phospholipase D2, suggesting a role in signaling pathways. Mutations in the SNCA gene, encoding alpha-synuclein, are associated with Parkinson’s disease. Alpha-synuclein peptides are also major components of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms have been identified. Diseases associated with SNCA include Parkinson Disease 1 (Autosomal Dominant) and Dementia with Lewy Bodies.
