Target Information
GCN1L1 acts as a positive activator of EIF2AK4/GCN2 protein kinase activity in response to amino acid starvation. It forms a complex with EIF2AK4/GCN2 on translating ribosomes and facilitates delivery of uncharged tRNAs to EIF2AK4/GCN2, stimulating kinase activity. This process contributes to repression of global protein synthesis and activation of ATF4-mediated transcriptional programs under nutrient depletion conditions.
