Target Information

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein with a key role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome.
The UBA52 gene encodes a fusion protein consisting of ubiquitin at the N-terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C-terminus.
Upon expression, it is processed into free ubiquitin and ribosomal protein S27a, which is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit and belongs to the S27AE family.
Ribosomal protein S27a contains C4-type zinc finger domains and is located in the cytoplasm.
Pseudogenes derived from this gene are present in the genome.
Similar fusion proteins include ribosomal protein L40 and ribosomal protein S30, which are fused with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins.
