Target Information

Glucocorticoid Receptor (NR3C1) acts as a receptor for glucocorticoids and functions both as a transcription factor and a regulator of other transcription factors. It forms cytoplasmic complexes with heat shock proteins and immunophilins and translocates to the nucleus upon ligand binding.
NR3C1 is expressed in various cardiac tissues, including atria, ventricles, aorta, and septum. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing and promoter usage. Mutations in NR3C1 can lead to glucocorticoid resistance.
The receptor binds steroids such as dexamethasone with nanomolar affinity and requires chaperone protein complexes for ligand activation.
