Target Information

The hnRNPs are RNA binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing and mRNA metabolism and transport.
While all hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm.
RBMXL2 contains two RRM domains that bind RNAs and shows similarity to HNRPG and RBMY proteins. It may replace HNRPG function during meiotic prophase or act as a germ cell-specific splicing regulator.
RBMXL2 primarily localizes to the nuclei of meiotic spermatocytes and is a candidate gene for autosomal male infertility.
This gene belongs to the HNRPG subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs).
