Product Specific Information
The OKT9 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD71, a 170–180 kDa type II transmembrane protein known as the transferrin receptor. CD71 exists as a homodimer on the cell surface and is essential for cellular growth. It is expressed by immature proliferating cells and at low levels on resting mature lymphocytes. Stimulation of T and B cells upregulates CD71 expression.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Flow cytometric analysis of unstimulated and CD3/CD28-stimulated (3 days) human blood cells. Recommended ≤0.5 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Antibody should be titrated for optimal performance.

Target Information
Cellular uptake of iron occurs via receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-bound transferrin receptor into endosomes. Acidification releases iron, and the apotransferrin-receptor complex recycles to the cell surface. The transferrin receptor is essential for erythrocyte and nervous system development. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) is used to detect erythropoietin misuse and diagnose various anemias (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, IBS, HIV-related).
