Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of the CD4 antigen, a 55 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on a subset of T lymphocytes (helper T-cells), as well as on monocytes, tissue macrophages, and granulocytes.


Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and functions as a co-receptor for HIV. It is mainly expressed in T-helper cells but also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
At the tissue level, CD4 expression is detected in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain, gut, and other non-lymphoid tissues.
CD4 plays a key role in T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
