Target Information
Human growth hormone (hGH) is a member of the somatotropin/prolactin family of hormones that play a crucial role in growth regulation. The GH1 gene, along with four related genes, is located on chromosome 17, sharing high sequence identity. Alternative splicing produces five isoforms (19–24 kDa). hGH is secreted by pituitary somatotroph cells and acts via cytokine receptor subfamily membrane receptors. Its primary function is to stimulate liver and other tissues to produce IGF-1, promoting myoblast differentiation, proliferation, and protein synthesis. Mutations or deletions in GH1 can lead to growth hormone deficiency and short stature.
