Target Information
MAP3K5 (ASK1) is a serine/threonine kinase abundantly expressed in human heart and pancreas. It is activated by various extracellular stimuli, including cytokines, growth factors, and environmental stresses. ASK1 activates MKK4 and MKK6, which subsequently activate JNK and p38 MAP kinases. ASK1/MAPKKK5 activation occurs via TNFR and Fas through interaction with TRAF family members and Daxx. Overexpression of ASK1 induces apoptosis, while its inactive form inhibits TNF-α-induced apoptosis. ASK1 is widely expressed in human and mouse tissues.
