The monoclonal antibody 5UCLNT3 recognizes mouse and rat Trefoil Factor 3 (TFF3).
TFF3 is a member of the trefoil family, characterized by having at least one copy of the trefoil motif — a 40-amino acid domain containing three conserved disulfide bonds.
It is a small peptide hormone secreted by mucus-producing and epithelial cells across multiple tissues including the gastrointestinal tract, kidney, and breast.
Biological role:
- Maintains and restores mucosal surfaces
- Facilitates epithelial barrier recovery after injury
- Inhibits apoptosis and promotes epithelial survival and migration
- Induces airway epithelial ciliated cell differentiation
- Urinary TFF3 levels serve as a biomarker for kidney tubular injury
- May be involved in breast tumor progression and dissemination
Applications Reported:
Suitable for Western blotting, immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections, and microscopy.
Applications Tested:
Validated for IHC on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded rat tissue using low pH antigen retrieval; effective concentration ≤ 0.5 µg/mL.
Antibody titration is recommended for optimal assay performance.
Target Information
Trefoil peptides are protease-resistant molecules secreted throughout the gut that promote mucosal healing.
They contain three intrachain disulfide bonds forming the trefoil motif (P-domain) and are clustered on human chromosome 21q22.3.
Trefoil Factor 3 (TFF3) is one of three trefoil peptides secreted by epithelial cells lining mucus membranes of the intestines and respiratory tract.
TFF3 acts mainly as a disulfide-linked homodimer, promoting cell migration during healing and supporting intestinal mucosal maintenance and repair.
