Target Information
ZF21 was initially identified as a protein that binds to the cytoplasmic tail of MT1-MMP (Membrane-type 1 matrix metalloproteinase), a potent invasion-promoting protease.
ZF21 belongs to a protein family characterized by a phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate-binding FYVE domain and plays a role in regulating focal adhesions (FAs) and cell movement.
Knockdown of ZF21 expression delays FA disassembly following nocodazole-induced synchronous FA disassembly, suggesting ZF21 involvement in this process.
ZF21 also contains a noncanonical pleckstrin homology domain, representing a potential therapeutic target for metastatic cancer.
