Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18)은 저분자량 케라틴의 산성(type A) 하위군에 속하며, Cytokeratin 8과 함께 존재합니다. 위장관, 호흡기, 비뇨생식기, 내분비 및 외분비 조직, 중피세포 등에서 발현됩니다. 비편평 상피세포에서 주로 발견되며, 대부분의 선암 및 관암에서는 발현되지만 편평세포암에서는 발현되지 않습니다. 간세포암은 Cytokeratin 8과 18만을 발현합니다. KRT18 유전자의 돌연변이는 cryptogenic cirrhosis와 관련이 있습니다. 이 유전자는 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변이를 가집니다.
Cytokeratin 하위유형의 발현 패턴은 다양한 상피성 악성종양의 구분에 점점 더 많이 이용되고 있습니다. Cytokeratin 항체는 면역조직화학을 통한 종양 감별 진단뿐만 아니라 세포병리학 및 유세포분석에도 유용한 도구입니다.
