Target Information
MST1R (RON) is a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in cell proliferation and motility. It is a membrane-spanning, disulfide-linked heterodimer resulting from cleavage of a glycosylated precursor into 35-kD (alpha) and 150-kD (beta) subunits. Ligand binding induces tyrosine phosphorylation of the beta chain. Knockout studies show MST1R/RON (-/-) mice fail to survive past the periimplantation period. The MST1R/RON gene is mapped to 3p21, a region frequently altered in small cell lung and renal carcinoma, and is implicated in epithelial cancer progression. Expression is documented in many normal human tissues, with ESTs isolated from normal and cancerous colon, mouth, prostate, stomach, and uterus.
